following hivers excellent ep, let recordings again welcomes american dj and producer jon hester to their imprint. currently based in berlin but with previous spells in chicago and minneapolis, he returns to the label for a second ep following 2017s communication ep, and other outings on the likes of rekids and dystopian. his adventurous drum programming and high speed techno style kicks things off with radiance, a manically melodic track that takes you on an energetic trip. impermanence is a deeper, more cinematic piece that features rueful pads but still a driving drum line, then stratospheric has huge, hammering kick drums and squelchy synth sounds as well as dancing keys that bring warmth, groove, and soul. last of all, this high class excursion is completed with horizon, delivering barreling drum patterns and edgy pads that trap you in suspense as it races on. all four tracks deliver a high impact techno sound that very much looks to the future.

one of the most mysterious and outsider soca 45s out there by h.m. these eyes timothy. the a-side let me love sounds like doo wop recorded with oluko imo s gear. and the b-side soca hustle sounds like the residents jamming a marvin whoremonger song with augustus pablo. the original 45 is so obscure that even his siblings didnt know that he made music. and rumour has it that, frustrated by its lack of success, michael threw most of the copies of the 45 in the valley beside his family s house in the hills just outside port of spain. one-time pressing of 500 copies

viers clocks back in on figure duty, showing up with up for another strong statement of his unmistakenly singular style. here he is working it from all angles: straight up and searingly stoic techno opener let my mind breath is grinding away grittily, while things turn surprisingly bouncy, as genesis dishes out electrifying boom-bap-breakbeats, transporting imagery of neo-futuristic tokyo streets. as night sets in, so does the kinetic groove of oyasumi, which twirls layers of energetic movement into a thick current, zooming through the citys deep gorges of concrete and fiber glass. closing track data entry 4590 finally provides some soothing ambient tones of melancholic longing, inviting to slowly drift away into white-washed nothingness and process the bright color storm that viers lets unfold on this intense record.

this is a great sophomore effort by this scottish outfit. the singer has a unique semi-quavering voice with a melodramatic quality that suits the music and would equally suit him on stage in a musical. some songs are aggressive but with a dark hue. opening cut -a leaving song- finds sutherland carving his way through jangly and buzzing guitars set to a skittery beat with a touch of the theatrical. closing is -home-, a forlorn ballad with sutherland delicately pleading -please let me come home-, elegiac and sweet.

a true holy grail from the cloud one catalog, dont let my rainbow pass me by is the third of a string of titles on golden flamingo produced by the p&p duo of patrick adams and peter brown and featuring vocals from guardian angel singer margot williams. similar to previous cloud ones productions, this record had all the elements of a patrick adams classic, but with vocal arrangements that foreshadowed the work he would do with inner life and jocelyn brown at salsoul. perhaps not so much of a concidence then that margot williams would provide backing vocals on inner lifes second and final album. even though it was originally released in 1981, dont let my rainbow pass me by is still championed by high-profile deejays today. over the years, its been notably sampled in basement jaxxs romeo and covered by todd terje and prins thomas in reinbagan as a dub-disco cut. available for the first time since its original release, our only piece of advise is to don’t let this classic pass you by.

being closely connected to the label, it was only a matter of time before daniele cosmo was released on pinkman. at long last, he makes his debut appearance with co-conspirator cco as savage grounds. what they came up with is a tight two tracker presenting full speed, minimalistic punk electro workouts. both tracks, while boasting with furiosity and dread, as is often the case in the broken dreams releases, carry an infectious groove that is guaranteed to get bodies moving in the highest gear and right into the abyss. pressed on a single 7- this concise release is far from falling short in completeness, expertise and potential to break dreams.

beautiful melodic driving techno by hiver. especially the title track stands out with a killer remix from jp enfant that adds some bottom weight and masculanity to the original! the italian pair of giuseppe albrizio and sergio caio recently released on belgium s curle label, and this ep confirms their talent. three original tracks ranging from driving techno to electro-tinged broken beat territory, with watery sound design, liquid keys and icy hi hats getting you into a trance. nice!!

its not always about super rares, we got to cover those lp tracks as well. how this never made it onto a 45 ill never know. michael henderson s brilliant let love enter has always been an underground classic and is about to get a fire lit under it once again, simply the finest brazilian influenced soul jazz fusion. michael s bass playing, vocals and production are all over modern american black music, having played for miles davis. norman connors, marvin gaye, stevie wonder to name just a few, his influence is huge right through the industry as well being a million selling artist himself. you can still here his bass sampled in many a hip-hop track to this day.
